SALT. SUGAR. SPICE.

Food without Flavor can be upsetting.
Salt and sugar are not technically spices, but rather common kitchen ingredients used for flavoring and seasoning. Salt is a mineral made up of sodium and chloride, while sugar is a carbohydrate made up of glucose and fructose. Both are essential to cooking and baking, but should be consumed in moderation as excessive consumption can lead to health problems.

When reading a nutritional label, the amount of salt and sugar in a product is listed in grams or milligrams. It is important to note that the recommended daily intake of salt is no more than 2,300 milligrams per day, while the recommended daily intake of sugar is no more than 25 grams for women and 36 grams for men.

Spices, herbs, and spice blends are different from salt and sugar as they are derived from plants and used to add flavor, aroma, and color to dishes. Spices are typically made from the seeds, bark, roots, or fruits of plants and include examples such as cinnamon, cumin, and paprika. Herbs, on the other hand, are the leaves of plants and include examples such as basil, parsley, and thyme. Spice blends are a combination of different spices and herbs, such as the Kebab and All Purpose Spice blends.

Examples of spices include: Cinnamon - a sweet and aromatic spice often used in baking and desserts; Cumin - a warm and earthy spice commonly used in Middle Eastern and Indian cuisine; Ginger - a pungent and spicy root often used in African, Asian and Caribbean cuisine.
Examples of herbs include: Basil - a fragrant herb with a slightly sweet and peppery flavor often used in a variety of cuisines; Thyme - a woody and aromatic herb often used in Mediterranean and French cuisine; Rosemary - a fragrant and slightly bitter herb often used in roasted meats and vegetables.

Although salt and sugar are not technically spices, they are important ingredients in cooking and baking. However, spice blends are an excellent option for those who want to add more flavor to their cooking without having to purchase and store multiple individual spices.

Using spice blends can also save time and effort as they are already pre-mixed and ready to use.  Choosing a good spice blend comes down to personal preference and experimentation. Trying out different blends and experimenting with different combinations of spices can help you discover new and delicious flavors to enhance your cooking.
